Q: I want to register for an online class and start it today. Can I attend class on a date other than the offering date?
A: Our online sessions begin on the 1st and 15th of each month, but you may enroll for a class at any time. You do not have to complete a class all in one day; you have 30 days to complete the class materials. If you want to enroll in a session that has already begun, you can register late, but you will not have the full 30 days to complete the class. For example, someone registering on the 11th can be enrolled in the class that started on the 1st, but they will have 30 minus 11 days (19 days) to complete the class.

Q: Do I need to complete the program all on one day to get credit?
A: No, the seminars are self-paced. You can move as rapidly or as slowly as you want within a 30-day window. You can work for one hour and then log off and come back three days later and work for another hour or two. You determine the speed.

Q: How often are the classes offered?
A: Programs begin on the 1st and 15th of every month. If you'd like to start immediately, you can enroll for the most previous session, but you will have fewer than the full 30 days to complete the program material.

Q: What programs are offered?
A: We have several course and seminar offerings available now. View all class offerings New classes are being offered all the time, so be sure to come back and check the website often.

Q: What is the difference between a Course and a Seminar?
A: Online education programs are either courses or seminars. Courses are generally more intensive resulting in more content and credit hours, and usually require an offline proctored exam. Additionally, some states recognize online courses for pre-licensure credit. Seminars are developed on specific practice-related issues and help you fulfill continuing education requirements.

Q: Do I need to purchase a text or additional materials to successfully complete the class?
A: In general, all of the class content is contained online. However, some classes offer supplementary materials that will enhance the learning process. Courses may have required or optional textbooks. Check the class description for specific information.

Q: Can I receive continuing education credit for online classes?
A: Most of the seminars count for seven (7) hours of Appraisal Institute continuing education credit (CE). As with all continuing education programs, each individual state must approve the seminar for credit. The online classes have been submitted to all states that approve online education and the The Appraisal Qualifications Board (AQB) of the Appraisal Foundation for CE approval. Visit our State Appraisal Boards Approvals page for details.

Q: When should I register?
A: You should register before the scheduled start date of the course or seminar you wish to take if you would like the full 30 day window. Otherwise, you may register late if you plan to complete the program in less time.

Q: How long do I have to complete the class?
A: You have 30 days from the start date to complete your class. Your access to the class will expire at midnight Central Standard Time on the 31st day of the program. If you registered late for a session-in-progress, you will have less than the full 30 days.

Q: Is it possible to access the classes after the 30-day period?
A: No. You will not be allowed to access the class once your thirty-day registration period has expired unless you request an extension. The extension request must be made either during the class session or within seven days after the class has expired. (See our Terms and Policies for further details.) When you are in the class, if you want to save locations of interesting linked sites, go to these sites and use your browser functions to add the sites to your bookmarks or favorites.

Q: Why are the classes limited to a 30 days time frame?
A: Each class is different, and can demand different times. For example, our pre-licensure courses give students more than 30 days. Many of our 7-hour Continuing Education programs are 30 days because, in our experience, if a student hasn't finished a program within 30 days, they likely aren't going to finish. Keep in mind this time frame is still 30 times longer than students get in a classroom to complete the class.

Q: Do the classes have instructors?
A: Yes, but the role of the faculty is different from the traditional classroom. Rather than deliver lectures, instructors serve as facilitators. They are available to answer questions and guide discussions via e-mail and online discussion groups during the entire length of the class.

Q: Will I receive proof of completion?
A: Yes. A certificate of completion in Portable Document Format (PDF) will be emailed immediately after you successfully complete the class, with the date of completion. The type of certificate emailed will be based on the address under which you are registered. If you are licensed in more than one state and require more than one type of certificate you can request them by contacting us.

Q: How do the online courses and seminars work on the Internet?
A: Review our How it Works page.

Webinars Wanted

We are now accepting proposals for webinars to be presented during 2008. What is a webinar? It is 1-2 hour live educational presentation over the Internet. The presenter and listeners can be anywhere in the world. Here is a short example. Webinars are a great way to share your knowledge and expertise with the appraisal profession.

If you have an idea that you think would be of interest to other appraisers, please submit a proposal.
